Colin Chapman was one of the most innovative automobile engineers in the Industry. Like Enzo Ferrari he needed to build production cars to fund his racing obsession. Also like Enzo, he used what he learned through racing to make his production cars better. Ground effects, active suspension, and performance through lightness were examples of his genius.
The Elan was one of Chapman's seminal designs. The Elan uses a simple molded fiberglass body mounted on a strong backbone chassis with a tweaked version of a basic Ford Cortina engine for power. The Elan was an instant hit for its sporty looks and outsized performance.
Our Elan came to us in trade on a Ferrari 400 GT. It is a Series 3 example in upgrades SE trim. It has been recently serviced with a valve job, brake rebuild, new water pump and other miscellaneous work by a recognized Lotus authority. It drives great making all the right sounds.
Few cars are as much fun as a Lotus Elan. This one is a great buy.
