You and I might cringe at a $90,000+ restoration bill, but when a Mercedes Benz 540K, a 1937 Alfa Romeo 2.9 Spider -that you bought from Ralph Lauren - and a 1937 Type 57SC Bugatti Atalante Coupe, are just a couple of the cars in your collection, a $100k restoration bill is getting off light.

We're told that the original owner of this Giulietta was a devoted Alfa enthusiast. He must have been as he kept the car an incredible 55 years.

The next (and last) owner is a noted collector. He wanted to participate in some vintage rallies, but with something a bit less valuable than his serious iron. He found this California Giulietta and commissioned a cosmetic restoration and mechanical upgrade to bring the car up to the condition he was accustomed to.

The body was completely stripped and rotisserie restored. The interior was totally restored with new leather, carpet, and soft trim. The top was replaced and all chrome was restored or replaced.

Mechanically, the car needed to be reliable under any condition as well as run with the pack. A Weber carbed 2 liter Alfa engine was acquired to replace the anemic 1300, then rebuilt to better than new specs. The 4 speed transmission was abandoned in favor of a 5 speed. The chassis was treated to new bushings, new shocks and 4 wheel disc brakes.

The result was a rousing success with the car competing internationally in the 2014 Marrakech Tour, the California Mille Miglia, and the 2015 Holy Land Tour. Each event consisted of approximately 1,000 miles of strenuous driving through various weather conditions and geographical challenges, all completed without issue.
