In 1970 Citroën released the SM as the luxury Gran Turismo Coupe of the future. This unique design both cosmetically and mechanically was truly way ahead of its time. Labeled as A blend of Citroen Engineering and Maserati Performance, the SM was developed as the successor to the slower Citroen DS. Hailed
Sporting a Maserati V6 motor and front wheel drive, a top speed of 140 mph was achieved while the hydro-pneumatic 4 wheel independent suspension let the car float down the road in extreme comfort. To help the handling of the SM, power brakes equipped with proportional braking technology was used to stop the car in a way that didn't dive or squat depending on the speed traveled. Another impressive feature is a hydraulically operated system that changes the turning ratio and steering feel depending on your speed called SpeedFeel on the US market cars.
While the SM boasted great performance features, the styling was also well advanced for its time. The sleek lines that tapered the rear end to make it more narrower than the front end for further advanced aerodynamics. The large amount of glass throughout lets you look in to the interior that is covered in leather and chrome accents. While the comfort and elegance is shown throughout, the dash is equipped with an advanced monitoring system that indicates any issues in the basic functions of the automobile.
This particular example is a Gris Nacré finish over Tobacco interior. It is in fantastic condition with all functions operating in perfect order and equipped with the 3 speed Citromatic transmission. It has been part of a fully curated prominent collection for many years where no expense was spared caring for cars.
