The 280 SL was the last in a model line known as W113s or “Pagodas”. W113 is Mercedes' model number for a series that includes the 230SL, 250SL and 280SL. The Pagoda nickname was derived from the model's Paul Bracq designed hardtop's roofline. The shape is said to be reminiscent of Far Eastern temples.

The number portion of the name, 280, refers to the models engine displacement, 2800 cc. The 2.8 liter engine was the largest engine of the series. The SL designation pays homage to Mercedes Sport Leicht or Sport Lightweight, construction technique used on their fabled 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster.

Motorcar Gallery is proud to offer one of the finest 280 SL's available. Our car is a two owner example that was with the original owner 47 years, until February of 2017. It has Mercedes Tex interior, automatic transmission, hard top, soft top and highly desirable air conditioning. Additionally it has its original Becker Europa AM/FM radio, power steering, bumper guards, tinted glass, chrome roof bars, and radial white wall tires.

The car has only been driven 93,005 miles from new. It is mostly original and unrestored. The paint is the original color and is in excellent condition. The interior is original and looks very good. Mechanically the car is an excellent performer.

The car is complete with original owner's manuals including service book with dealer stamps. Complementing the owner's material is a folder with a comprehensive file of service receipts. The spare is new having never been on the ground. The original tools and jack kit are in the trunk.
