1965 Cobra 427 Roadster by Hurricane Motorsports.

1965 Cobra 427 Roadster by Hurricane Motorsports.

This extraordinary 1965 427 Cobra Roadster replica is powered by a 4.6 32-Valve DOHC Mustang Cobra Engine backed with a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential stuffed with 3:50 gears. An aluminum radiator with an electric fan and aluminum engine bay trim are precise and fit nicely. Hurricane Motorsports of Lee's Summit, Missouri, is generally considered a quality manufacturer of Cobra replicas, offering a well-built 427 roadster with all-new components. Near as we can determine, the firm sold something like 122 cars in either kit or turnkey form.

The car looks gorgeous in Brittney Blue with white stripes (BC/CC), there are no obvious scratches on this fiberglass body. Hurricane even coated the undersides of the fiberglass body components with Vortex bedliner coating for easy cleanup and a smooth appearance. The company appreciates period-correct touches too, as shown by the inclusion of fiberglass foot boxes, dash supports on the center console, riveted hood scoop, and Girling hydraulic reservoir cans.

The equipment list is long and includes 17″ Halibrand-style BRM knock-off wheels (10.5” wide in back and 8” wide in front), tires are Sumitomo HTR's 315/35's in the back and 245/45's up front. Stopping power is courtesy of Wilwood's four-wheel disc brake setup. Under the scoop sits a Sullivan Performance intake manifold topped with a 650 cfm Quick Fuel Technology carb. Spark is enhanced with an MSD 6AL Ignition setup.

The front suspension is an A-arm, coil-over setup, while the rear sports a Ford 9-inch live axle positioned with a four-link design, QA-1 coil-over shocks as well. Steering is manual rack and pinion and feels very easy to steer.

The interior features low-back Cobra-brand bucket seats imported from Britain trimmed in black leather along with color-matching door panels and carpets. Equipment includes heated seats, RJS five-point harnesses, wind wings, a dash-mounted center rearview mirror, tinted sun visors, AC-branded clutch and brake pedals, Cobra branded floor mats, and a fire extinguisher. The throttle, brake and clutch pedals are floor mounted and the cockpit benefits from a fresh-air duct system. Systems report in through a set of Autometer Gauges; 4” Tachometer and reverse-sweep Speedo, and 2.5” oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, volts, and a fuel level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 08619.0 miles

Exterior features include a hood scoop, black roll bar, a bullet-style driver-side fender mirror, black quick jacks, an aluminum LeMans-style fuel filler, and side exhaust pipes powder coated flat black to match the roll bar.

This Cobra runs and drives very well and sounds incredible. She makes a statement and sounds very angry when provoked. Rest assured she idles nice and smooth you're your significant other is sitting in the passenger seat (wink, wink).

A manufacturer's assembly manual, a file containing all receipts for the build and a battery tender are included in the sale.
