1528, that's the total number of 500E/E500 imported to the US. 5.5 seconds, that's how long it took for a 500E to reach 62 mph, a very impressive number for a sedan in the early 1990s. 160 mph, that's the electronically limited top speed of a 500E. Less than $50,000 is what it takes to put this magnificent car in your garage.

There are many legendary Mercedes-Benz and the 500E certainly deserves to be included in the pack. In 1984, Mercedes introduced the mid-size W124 'E'' class sedan. The clean lines and perfect size of the W124 made it an immediate hit. The model would be produced into 1996.

In the late 1990's, Mercedes decided to build a hot rod version of the W124 to one-up BMW's M5. That was accomplished by inserting their big 5-liter V8 from the 500SL into a W124 chassis. The car had 4 Recaro bucket seats, fender flares, and the obligatory upgrades to complement the added performance.

Ironically, the flared body was too wide to go down Mercedes' assembly line and plan B was needed. Fortunately, Porsche had some excess manufacturing capacity and a deal was made for Porsche to assemble the 500E at their factory. Not only did Porsche assemble the cars, they actually built them by hand, making the build quality a notch above the exceptional quality of Mercedes' other cars.

Our 500E is a one-owner Miami car. It has a clean Carfax and is in excellent condition.

There is a cult following for 500Es and there's a good reason for that. Their interior is beautiful and purposeful. The Recaros are firm yet comfortable. The engine sounds like a Formula 1 Safety Car and moves the car at a pace that was ahead of its time. And the flares… if there is a perfect blend of looking muscular without looking gimmicky, the 500E has it.

There are few opportunities to buy a great 500E and almost none that includes a one-owner car. Look at our pictures again and you'll want this car.
